Electronic Transaction Consultants Corporation (ETC) Successfully Implements Toll Transponder Interoperability Between Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas
Electronic Transaction Consultants and seven agencies across Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas developed a new Central U.S. Hub of toll interoperability, allowing toll road users to use their own transponders throughout the three states.
Richardson, Texas – A new Central U.S. Hub was launched in June between seven agencies across three states. Now drivers can use an interoperable toll tag transponder from Oklahoma, Kansas, or Texas to drive on the toll roads in each state. For instance, a toll tag user in Kansas can now use that same toll transponder throughout Oklahoma and Texas.
Electronic Transaction Consultants Corporation (ETC) worked closely with the seven agencies to make this possible. The interoperable agencies include North Texas Toll Authority (NTTA), Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA), Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA), Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority (FBCTRA), Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), and Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA).
“ETC is proud to deliver the next generation of the Central Interoperability Hub to NTTA, HCTRA, TXDOT, CTRMA, FBCTRA, OTA, and KTA -- providing a tolling experience to more than 13.5 million customers in three states,” stated President and Chief Executive Officer, Keith Rayborn, of ETC. “ETC has been an interoperability advocate and solution provider in the Central and Southeastern United States for more than 10 years.”
These efforts are part of a National Interoperability Initiative that allows the Central Interoperability Hub to integrate to the National Interoperability Program when ready. When finalized, the National Interoperability Program would follow similar standards that the Central Interoperability Hub follows which allows for a more simplified transition when the time comes.
The project was completed on-budget with successful testing before the program officially launched. The program allows users with various transponders from the different toll agencies to travel throughout the roadways of the different agencies as if they were using a local transponder.
In 2005, ETC worked with different toll and transportation authorities throughout the state of Texas to create a Texas interoperability “Smart Hub” still used throughout the state today.
